She's Back: Wanda Is Cruising The Neighborhood

She's Back: Wanda Is Cruising The Neighborhood

Turkey on Evansdale RoadWanda is back in the neighborhood and she is a real turkey.  That's right, a real American turkey.  Wanda walks the neighborhoods off Henderson Mill Road and Evansdale Road looking for a mate every spring.  If you have seen her in your neighborhood, drop a comment in below with the sighting location.

I confess to naming Wanda as a show of respect to her instincts for "wandering" around.  This is truly an urban bird.

Did you know Wanda's ancestor was the runner up in the contest to name a national bird.  The bald eagle was almost knocked off by the American turkey.  Thomas Jefferson proposed the American Turkey be named the national bird.  Wanda, you were almost somebody!!!!

Sally:

How cute.  We have a dozen or so turkeys that roam through our neighborhood during the Spring and Fall.  Last fall, 4 or 5 of them would roost in the tree in our back yard.  They are so fun to watch.

It's it great when you see nature at it's best  in your own backyard.

Jody, Roy and Christine:

Thanks for dropping by this morning.  Yes, it is definitely a topic of conversation in my neighborhood.  I accused one of my neighbors of hitting the sauce a little early when he first told me of a Wanda sighting.  Since then I have had to eat my words as Wanda has walked all over my Woods of Henderson neighborhood.  last spring she practically parked in my front yard one day.

I thought dogs would bother her but her ability to hop in the air and fly makes the dogs look silly when they chase her.

Best to all of you,

Sally

Sally:

That is a clever name for the wandering turkey.  We have turkeys in our yard as well but not at this time of the year.  I really enjoy seeing them.  They must be hiding from the snow.

Sally, haven't seen any Turkeys in my neighborhood, but we did see two deer yesterday. Great name for this wondering Turkey. Thanks.

Yikes Wanda may be someone's feast if she isn't careful Sally! This must be sight to see.
