MOBILE HOME CHILDHOOD
I grew up in a "mobile" home. My father was a homebuilder and our homes were always for sale.
Don't get me wrong, the homes were great and had lots of whistles and bells. We had lake front homes (twice), home with a swimming pool (once), home on a 40 acre lot in suburban Atlanta (later turned in to a subdivision!).
JUST PASSING THROUGH
These homes were often the envy of the Atlanta Homebuilder Association's members and they did not lack in amenities and appointments. My father, Bill Bryant, was president of the Atlanta Homebuilders Association and a life long member so he kept up with luxury housing trends.
My brother, sister and I knew each home was just a step along the way and when we got our bedrooms "just right" it was probably time to move again.
HOME IS NOT STICKS AND BRICKS
My homes were not so much the sticks and bricks as much as it was my loving parents, a great brother and sister plus a community where we put down roots in our church and schools.
LIVED IN SAME HOME SINCE 1982
Now for the confession: even though I have been in the real estate business for 27 years as a custom home builder, Broker and finally as a successful listing and buyer's agent, I have not moved since 1982. Guess I got that out of my system growing up.
HOMEBUILDER DAD BUILT THE HOME WE ARE IN NOW
Second confession: my dad helped me build the home of my dreams in 1982. It was just a shell when completed in 1982 but my husband and I have had a great time putting the finishing touches on it during the past 27 years. And yes, we still have a few things to tackle.

Sally, I been here almost as long as you. In Sixteen years of marriage we have had 6 homes. Of that only one was built from the ground up. All the rest we completely rebuilt. My boss tells me this one is it for a while. Your right on about the love that is within the home is what makes it a home.
Sally, I have a colleague who has bought and renovated many homes with her husband. She always jokes that her children hate this lifestyle! They were all in the same geographic area, so the schools and friends remained constant, but they were also sick of living in construction zones which, once really beautiful, got put up for sale! I think it's funny that you've stayed in the same house for so long!
An instructor told me once that every Realtor should move from time to time to stay in tune with what there clients go through. Of course I have not move in fifteen years either.
OK, another minor confession for Frank, Patricia and Charles:
My husband and I ahve purchased homes over the years that might be deemed "projects" or "fixeruppers". Tim enjoys the demo process for fixing these homes up and I enjoy working with contractors to re do the interiors. We have done about 8 of these and after each one we swear off the process for another year or so.
I guess it helps us appreciate the work invlolved with remodeling your own home.
Sally... Sally here. We moved all the tim as a kid. I've been to 3 elementary schools, one jr hi, and 3 high schools. My kids were born in the home my hubby and I built, and we'll probably die here. Moving ain't all it's cracked up to be. Stay put, girl.
I think it could be said that staying in one house is good for your finances. The richest man in my community has been in the same modest house for at least 30 years and Warren Buffet, probably longer than I have been alive. I guess if you plan on moving a lot, just don't have a lot of stuff. Like I heard one time, All I have to move are my records, anywhere in the world in 30 minutes!
Thats kind of neat - instead of an Army Brat you were a Builder's brat - in so far as you had to move all the time - great that you love your home so much you've stayed in it fore 26 years - wow!
That's wonderful, Sally. How nice that you have stayed in your home for 27 years. That's gotta be great for your kids. I know I didn't like having to move so many times as a kid.
