Setting Up An Apartment in Georgetown part Two: Settling In

Setting Up An Apartment in Georgetown part Two: Settling In

Sally ENglish Georgetown ApartmentIn Part One of Setting Up An Apartment in Georgetown I discussed the move-in over MLK weekend of my daughter and niece into a converted four plex in the Georgetown district of Washington DC.  Today we are tackling the details of the move in and going to Lowes for some supplies.

First on the list was unclogging the bathroom sink.  The problem was a sink that was completely clogged up.  My husband Tim tackled the sink with an extra large container of Draino Gel and a plunger.  It took him most of the evening to get the sink drain working again.  Tim started before we went to dinner at a Thai restaurant in Kimball and then worked on it for an hour after we returned to the apartment.  It finally broke free before we went to bed.

Next on the list are window treatments.  We need to

•1.       Put up some curtain rods we brought from home

•2.       Hang some blinds.

There was an assortment of window treatments in place when we arrived but there are some windows that have nothing at all.

Also on the list is finding out why some of the electrical outlets do not work in one of the bedrooms.  Apparently there is a panel board in the basement.

Recycling:  Must be some way to recycle bottles cans and paper here in Georgetown.  We need to figure that out today.

And finally, they need wifi.  Some of the apartments in the fourplex have wifi.  Perhaps we can work out something with their fellow tenants.

Setting Up An Apartment in Georgetown Part One: The Big Move

Setting Up An Apartment in Georgetown Part One: The Big Move

Sally ENglish Georgetown ApartmentHow did you spend your MLK weekend?  My weekend was spent setting up an apartment in Georgetown (Washington DC) for my daughter Caroline and niece Katherine.  Caroline is teaching at Saint Stephens Saint Agnes School and Katherine is completing a Masters Degree at American University.  Both are recent college graduates and this is their first "real" apartment.

My husband and I loaded up our suburban and a trailer with family castoffs and furniture left behind in houses I have listed.  It was a pretty motley collection but once assembled looks nice.  My niece Katherine is a whiz with Craigslist and found a sofa and chair someone wanted to give away.  Again, not bad...especially for free!

My husband and I left Atlanta, Georgia early Friday morning and by 7:00 pm we had the truck/trailer unloaded and most of the "stuff" stowed away.  The weather was beautiful and things went far more smoothly than we would have anticipated.

Sally ENglish Georgetown ApartmentThe girls are now ready to start organizing and cleaning as they work to make their first home a place to remember.  Who knew setting up an apartment in Georgetown could be so satisfying.
